Happy International Women's Day from three generations of strong, southern women.
"Yeah, I had been wondering... How did you get it? If you don't mind..."
My new friend Jacob is struggling. Behind his well-built and very compassionate wall of caution is an itching question which he is desperate to scratch.
How did I get my scar?
My last post of the summer, before school begins and my life is consumed in books... (actually that sounds pretty ok to me). I've got big plans for the blog this fall, though, so keep your eyes peeled for more good stuff. Anyway...
Before my trip to China, I decided to take the plunge and get my first pair of Birks. I'd read about them for years and I knew I would need something easy to slip on that could take a bit of walking. I decided on the traditional Arizona Birks in Habana, and I have to say, they did not disappoint!
After a pair of red eye flights that totaled about seventeen hours, we walked out from under the airport's hanging sign, flashing simply "Foreigners," and blinkingly slipped into the back of our friend's car. The car swerved from its place into oncoming traffic! Our friend wove in and out of lanes, honking loudly and carving an aggressive path to the freeway.
"Now you will learn how to drive in Beijing" he said to us with a grin.
That's as far as we got on our first day of driving from Nashville, TN to Colorado Springs, CO. We had planned to get there in one day, but it was 10:00pm and we still had four hours of driving to go.
After weighing the pros and cons of stopping or pushing through, we decided to go the safer route and get to Colorado the next day. I informed our AirBNB host of the delay, and an hour later we were sound asleep in the flattest stretch of the U.S. I've ever seen...
For our third anniversary, we decided to take a trip we'd been dying to take for years.
For years we'd heard of the breathtaking beauty of Colorado, but we'd never seen it for ourselves.
Today I'm going to review a product that is a revolution and a total "duh" moment all rolled into one. I'll give a disclaimer though: this post is about a product for people with periods, so if that's not a topic you'd like to read about, stop right here!
Every year we ask the same question: are we staying or moving on? When we moved a couple years ago, we didn't really know what we had in store for us, but we knew it was time for a change. So we took a plunge and came out the other side completely soaked, but still breathing. It was a great experience and showed us the value of ownership and of letting go at the same time.
Once life settled down and we had cracked open every cardboard box, I wrote down what I learned from the experince. Having gone through what I know everyone goes through at some point in life, here is what we did to make our move happen. Probably nothing you haven't heard before, but helpful nonetheless!
